The Revolution Continues blog is news, views, opinion and other expressions of hope from a leftist point-of-view. (We are not affiliated with any candidate, political party or organization. All are welcome.)
Notice the plural—it’s the costs
of war. How much money is available to spend plays a large part in how
any war is conducted and concluded, but there are so many other costs
that are seldom considered by those who start a war rather than take the
diplomatic route to settle their dispute with others.
The costs in human lives is
perhaps the most tragic of the costs of war. It’s difficult to say how
many soldiers have been killed in the two-week-old war with Iran since the United States and Israel (USrael) have been keeping very quiet on the numbers.
Experts estimate that there have been far more American deaths than the
thirteen or so admitted to the mainstream media. Some believe there to
be at least 1,000+ American troops, CIA agents, and civilian contractors
to the military killed so far in the bombings of the US military bases
in the Gulf region alone. A US military hospital in Landstuhl has been
inundated with the injured coming from the war arena according to X posts from Germany.
On
the civilian side, there have been on estimated 1,500 deaths and more
than 3 million displaced in Iran. This includes the 175 school girls and
their teachers bombed in their school by a US Tomahawk missile during
the war’s opening hours. Israel’s attacks on Beirut and Lebanon have
added at least 800 civilian deaths to the totals and hundreds of
thousands of Lebanese displaced. At least 15 Lebanese paramedics were
targeted by IDF bombing. An entire village in southern Lebanon along
with its church and Catholic priest were also targeted for destruction this week by Israeli forces.
War knows no boundaries. Children, medics, and priests are all fair targets, all a part of the costs of war...

Our early morning emergency protest proved challenging. When I arrived, I discovered the entire street in front of the building where our Congresswoman’s district office is located in the process of being torn up. There were drainage pipes being replaced along with concrete mixers and gravel trucks and graders galore. Once I figured out where to park and how to cross the construction area to get to the front door, I found my fellow protesters already hard at work banging loudly on their pots and pans.
The noisy demonstration was to draw attention to the mass starvation of the inhabitants of Gaza. Israel has killed 20.7% of Gaza's population in the past 22 months, or approximately 434,000 people by some estimates.
I don’t hold out much hope for any positive actions coming from our representative, Marcy Kaptur, a conservative Democrat fully in the zy0nists’ pockets. Perhaps we could guilt her into doing something right in Congress for a change. Marcy almost lost her last election, so the longest-serving Congresswoman really should be more cognizant of pleasing her voters, right?
After several minutes of clanking pots together and chanting, “Stop starving Gaza!” a woman in a catering uniform wheeled a cart full of pastries, fruit trays, and large coffee flasks into the building. How ironic! Here we were protesting against the deliberate withholding of food to the people of Gaza, instigated by the US government’s GHF faux humanitarian program, and the occupants of perhaps Congresswoman Kaptur’s office upstairs were about to stuff their faces full of delicious goodies in celebration for a job well done. For me, this cruel comparison of using food as both a means to hurt some and as a means to reward others is an image that will never be forgotten.
A few days later, I joined in a protest march through the University of Toledo where an outdoor arts show was being held on the main mall. The deer-in-the-headlight stares we received from onlookers were more than plentiful. You’d think these very well-heeled folks buying expensive art weren’t aware of the genocide happening in Gaza and that the US was playing a big part in it.
One art hawker even pulled out an American flag and started waving it and shouting angrily at our lack of patriotism as we repeatedly marched past his booth. None of these art-lovers looked like they’d ever missed a meal in their lives—and a few looked like they’d eaten more than enough for two or three persons in their lifetimes.
When it comes down to it, food is the most lethal weapon. Withhold it—and your enemies weaken and starve to death. Lavish it upon them—and your enemies could become your allies or at least less hostile to you, as long as you keep feeding them. Food is the ultimate way to control human beings, forcing them to respond the way you want them to with a minimum of effort. Other than depriving people of oxygen, there’s probably not a control substance in the known universe that’s quite so versatile.
Now you know the real secret behind the starving of millions of Palestinians. Starvation might take a bit longer to accomplish its goal than simply bombing cities, villages, and bodies into rubble, but it’s a relatively simple thing to do. What’s happening currently in Gaza is called a forced famine as it is man-made and not due to natural causes. And withholding food is much cheaper than building or buying bombs, jets, tanks, and other weapons—a win-win situation for aggressors...

We live in a time where leftists and communists are being labeled as Nazis and real Nazis are being labeled as freedom fighters standing up against fascism. We can't make this up. --Kris Legion
You Can't Make This Stuff Up
by C.A. Matthews
After
I read this headline, both my mind and my stomach started to churn:
Jon
Stewart and the Pentagon Honor Ukrainian Nazi at Disney World
Disney
World? "The Happiest Place on Earth"? Jon Stewart? Welcoming Nazis?
Really?
During
the Department of Defense’s annual Warrior Games at Disney World in
Orlando, Florida this August 19-28, liberal comedian Jon Stewart
awarded a Ukrainian military veteran named Ihor Halushka the “Heart
of the Team” award for “inspiring his team” with his “personal
example.”
Halushka happens to have been a member of the
neo-Nazi Azov Battalion, which has been armed by the US and
integrated into the Ukrainian National Guard. The award-winning
ultra-nationalist wore a sleeve over his left arm as he accepted the
prize, presumably to cover up his tattoo of the Nazi Sonnenrad, or
Black Sun. (...)
...Even
the US government propaganda outlet Voice of America [has]
acknowledged the Azov Battalion’s embrace of Nazism. Right Sector
group has been similarly identified as a fascist organization. Since
the invasion, however, Western corporate media has downplayed the
presence of Nazis in the Ukrainian armed forces as groups like Azov
have taken on prominent front-line roles. (...)
An
unlisted YouTube video by the Invictus Games on YouTube offers a
close-up of Halushka working out with Nazi Black Sun symbol tattooed
on his left elbow clearly visible. Halushka opted to cover the
fascist symbol during photo ops at the Warrior Games.
Halushka
has never been shy about his ties to the Azov Battalion. During the
Invictus Games this April, he whipped out an Azov flag as he accepted
a gold medal, which was hosted in The Hague – where war criminals
are normally tried, not awarded. Likewise, in Orlando, Haluskha wore
an Azov Battalion t-shirt as he accepted a gold medal for indoor
rowing. He was honored days later as the “heart” of his team.
(...)
It is difficult to believe that Palevska and
Halushka are the only members of Team Ukraine that have belonged to
neo-Nazi groups.
A photo posted on the team’s official
Facebook page show five team members performing a fascist salute in
front of a Warrior Games banner.
In other photos, a member
of the team wearing a Warrior Games t-shirt can be seen holding a
Right Sector flag; and seven veterans associated with the team bear
the flag of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the Schutzstaffel
(SS), a WWII-era Nazi military formation made up of Ukrainian
nationalists.
American taxpayers have already forked $60
billion over to Ukraine since the war broke out in 2014. They are
therefore entitled to know whether the Department of Defense paid
Team Ukraine’s travel expenses.
The
article provides plenty of video links and photos that clearly show
these individuals with Nazi symbology tattooed on their
bodies and proof that they belong to Neo-Nazi militias such as the Azov
Battalion and Right Sector. (More about The History of Nazism in Ukraine here.) There's no doubt that Ukrainians have a thing for fascists as their own postage stamps attest:
So…
Disney
World welcomes Ukranian Nazis. Bad enough Disney Corp. welcomes the US
Department of Defense (more like Department of Offense)
inside their fairy-tale-themed, family amusement park, but they're
okay as
well with
individuals and groups who
agree with Ukrainian Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera and his favorite person Adolf Hitler, the man who
had 6 million people murdered in his gas chambers during World War 2.
You
know, this incident gives me a completely different take on “The
Magic Kingdom.” I can imagine
a Teutonic tour guide in a
near
dystopian future giving us a rundown of
its attractions...
“Velcome
to DizNa World! It's zee magical land where everyting is kept
spotlessly clean by our slave labor. No ve don't pay them low
wages--ve just don't pay them at all! Ha ha ha! It's what that sign Arbeit
macht frei (Work sets you free) outside the front gates means.”
“Over
here, you will see our most popular ride, It's A Small World.
Really, it is! We only allow a few northern European countries to be
featured on this ride because… Well, you know why. We only want
blue-eyed, blond persons in our fairy-tale land. No other colors or non-European religions need apply!”
“Speaking
of which, you might have noticed that DizNa's Princess Jasmine
character is now also blue-eyed and blonde. Just like Republican
Jesus!”
“The
Swiss Family Robinson tree house is, of course, still here. We
like the Swiss, especially their bankers who kept our gold for us
during World War 2. The Robinson home has been tastefully redecorated
in red, white, and black.”
“Whatz
dat construction over there? Oh, that’s a new attraction being
developed. It’s called The Showers. It’s not for everyone.
In fact, if you are Aryan you don’t ever have to
worry about it.”
Yeah,
the whole “Magical Kingdom” aspect of Disney World has been flushed down
the drain for me. I can’t see why
celebrating any persons who associate themselves with a Nazi
organization is a wholesome thing to do at a family amusement park anywhere in the world. I
just don’t.
Biden at Nuremberg?
Here
we have Biden sending billions of dollars in aid and armaments to
these Neo-Nazi groups in Ukraine while millions of Americans are going without
health care, rent assistance, and even food. We have millions suffering
under the burden of medical and student loan debt in this country, but we can’t do
a thing to relieve their pain. Jackson, Mississippi, and Flint,Michigan, still don’t have safe drinking water, and our federal
government can’t lift a finger to help these citizens out. But
somehow, we can finance an all expenses paid trip to Disney World for
a bunch of Nazis.
Hmm…
Jackson and Flint are cities with predominantly African American populations. Could that have
something to do with it? Biden doesn’t have any problem sending
billions of dollars to white Europeans to run a proxy war, but when it comes to helping
out fellow Americans of a different ethnic heritage in need of drinkable water he’s got
nothing?
Funding
and rescuing Nazis is nothing new to the US government. Remember NASA’s
rocket scientist Wernher von Braun? He was one of the 1,600
“nice Nazis” who America kept from the hangman’s noose at the Nuremberg Trials and
secreted into the US along with their families in
Operation Paperclip.
The
US government was fine
with these scientists' Nazi sympathies as long as they worked hard to give us the
edge we
wanted over
the Soviets’
space program. The US would do anything to best
the
“Russians" during
the Cold War, up to and including inviting avowed Nazis into our country.
The
more things change… Honestly, you can't make this stuff up.
I
don’t think I could feel more disgusted or more embarrassed than I
do today at the antics of the US Department of Defense and the military industrial complex as a whole.
Many
Americans
have
parents, grandparents, or
great-grandparents who fought the
Nazis
in World War 2. Many
Americans have relatives who survived the tortures of the Nazi work
camps, POW camps, and the bombings of their cities. Some older Americans themselves are survivors of Nazi atrocities.
And now Americans politicians and entertainers openly welcome Neo-Nazis with their words and actions.
All I can say is what Captain America said in his original 1940s comic book serials: Punch a Nazi!
DizNa
World is the dark

neoliberals
like Biden and company dream
of, maybe even celebrities like Jon Stewart. Perhaps it's time for Jon to retire? He seems out of touch with reality. Nazis were only funny on TV sit-coms like Hogan's Heroes and the British classic comedy series 'Allo, 'Allo! where they were portrayed as bumblers, not the racist killers they really are.
Either way, it’s
not the world our loved ones who died fighting fascism would have
ever imagined. Neoliberals will do anything to make money selling weapons so their stock portfolios of arms manufacturers continue to grow. It's all about their wealth, their health, and their propaganda machines churning out stories about how great the Azov Battalion is and how the US is all about "freedom and democracy." (Read last week's blog about how that fictitious labeling of wars for resources comes about.)
Ugh. I don't know about you, but I'm never going to consider taking a vacation at Disney World, Disney Land, or any of their related amusement parks ever again. They've convinced me that Mickey Mouse and friends aren't the sort of fictional creatures I want to hang out with.
Heck, forget Disney+ and all their movies and online streaming channels. Let the white supremacists support them. There's gotta be enough of them to keep Disney Corp. in the black...and red.
Here is Ihor Halushka, the Nazi honored by Jon Stewart, after he was injured, with his Nazi Sonnenrad tattoo clearly displayed as he grips a Mickey Mouse plushie in his hospital bed https://t.co/NWiqV4GkZSpic.twitter.com/ZWU45ZhL7S

more about killing than we know about living.” -- US Army General Omar Bradley, Armistice Day 1948
Whee! Let's Start World War 3!
By Coast Watcher
Capitalism loves
war!And it loves it with a passion Romeo and Juliet could only have dreamed of.
The profits that roll in from the vast military industrial complex’s
sales to nations around the world alone
are
far greater than the GNP of most countries. Of course, in order to
sell armaments there needs to be an actual war—or at least
the threat of one. Armed
tension is a great incentive for weapon sales. That
way all those potent weapons systems can be bought and deployed immediately or at least stored
until they could be used or sold on to others by their use-by date.
US corporations are rather practical-minded when it comes down to things such as working with Nazis. They figure making a buck means a buck made--whether or not it comes from your side or the other in a conflict.
Computer-related hardware sales are another major factor when it comes to starting a war, but sometimes the banging of
war drums fails to achieve the desired effect. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s
recent controversial
visit to Taiwan caused China to end trade in microprocessor chips of
the kind that fit in the American Javelin missile system, the very weapon
currently being sold by the US to Ukraine. Production of the weapon is now suspended
until another supplier can be found.
Oops.
Pelosi’s
visit is a classic example of an insider stock-trader capitalist seeking to profit from
war or near-war conditions. (For even more eye-opening insight into how deeply America's and China's economies are intertwined, check out this NPR story.) The Pelosi family’s investment in
Taiwanese industry is a matter of record. Whether it’ll ever yield them profits is debatable since her provocative visit to the island has
goaded China into action.
The
Chinese government warned Biden that the Speaker’s visit would “cross a red line.” Biden retorted that he didn’t recognize red
lines—something he also said prior to Russia’s similar warning about Ukraine's bombing of the Donbass region. Their intervention to defend ethnic Russians is nearing the
point where over a quarter of the country is now under control of the Russian Army.
It’s
quite reasonable to assume it won’t be long before negotiations are
begun in earnest to end the Ukrainian war. What’s left of Ukraine will remain a poor
relation in Europe, saddled with immense debt to the United States for
generations. There are even rumors that parts of the country
will be given to Poland as a reward for supporting the NATO forces in
this entirely preventable conflict.
Pelosi's visit to Taiwan heralds the US military industrial complex's next money-generating event. Biden's recent remarks and Pelosi's trip have provoked the Chinese Navy to conduct exercises geared toward a possible intervention in their breakaway province. Naval exercises are to take place in both the island’s “national waters” (which aren’t
officially recognized by any maritime nation) and in the Taiwanese
Straits.
Biden has warned China that the latter move is violating a
previous understanding about the Straits. This is a clear indication
that the US is contemplating military action to protect Taiwan from
invasion from the mainland. It’s
practically a given that conventional military exchanges between the US and China could
escalate to a full-on nuclear war, one that could annihilate the entire planet.
Could it be the capitalists' answer to global warming is a nuclear
winter?
The super-rich somehow believe they’ll be safe, tucked away in their
luxury bunkers in the south of New Zealand. But who will wash their dishes and grow their food if the rest of the world's population succumbs to radiation poisoning?
Has
capitalism gone too far in its greed for new opportunities for weapon sales? Indications
are that it has. Are the US and the West in general ready and prepared to wage an all out nuclear war, the final military conflict on Earth?
US plans to cope with a nuclear holocaust have been in
place for decades. New York recently ran a series of public service announcements on TV showing what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.
From the procedures outlined in the ads it amounts to little
more than the old “duck and cover” ideas of the 1950s and are
about as effective (read: not very). Experts agree that the best response to an attack with
modern nuclear weapons is to put your head between your knees and kiss
your ass goodbye.
Most
people dwell in a blissful mental state of denial, a place where the
prospect of all out nuclear war is but a remote possibility. To these deluded folks today
will be the same as yesterday. Tomorrow, of course, will be the same as today.
There’s food to buy, a roof to keep over your head, work to think
about... Existence as we know it and all life on Earth can’t possibly come to an end because of the simple and malevolent greed of the military industrial complex.
BIO: Coast Watcher is beginning to wonder if everyone isn't a little bit suicidal. Or maybe, just maybe, average people have been fooled into thinking that their MIC corporate-owned political leaders actually care about their safety and nuclear holocaust is necessary? Either way, we've got to wake up and toss these 1% warmongers out and fight like hell to build a safer and healthier world.
In
1955, 10 years after the U.S. dropped an atom bomb on Hiroshima
(Japan), the Turkish poet Nâzim Hikmet wrote a poem in the voice of a
7-year-old girl who died in that terrible act. The poem was later
translated into Japanese by Nobuyuki Nakamoto as “Shinda Onnanoko”
(“Dead Girl”) and frequently sung in commemorations of that atrocity.
Given the harshness of war and the escalation of conflict, it is
worthwhile to reflect once more on Hikmet’s beautiful, haunting lyrics:
I come and stand at every door But no one hears my silent tread. I knock and yet remain unseen For I am dead, for I am dead.
I’m only seven, although I died In Hiroshima long ago. I’m seven now as I was then. When children die, they do not grow.
My hair was scorched by swirling flame. My eyes grew dim; my eyes grew blind. Death came and turned my bones to dust And that was scattered by the wind.
I need no fruit, I need no rice. I need no sweets, nor even bread. I ask for nothing for myself For I am dead, for I am dead.
All that I ask is that for peace You fight today, you fight today So that the children of the world May live and grow and laugh and play.

So, the Democrats passed an Inflation Reduction Act that will have minimal impact on inflation and a Climate Bill that will make things significantly worse...and now we're supposed to believe those are good things?
True dat. The satanic heartless slave-drivers use all the means at their disposition to maintain the ‘world order’ that is always rigged to profit only the 1% status quo. In the #US 1/2 of all the tax money is used to protect & defend the global 1% https://t.co/V5sEM0Lyznpic.twitter.com/ySVq6W6d0l

When Will Foreign Leaders Start Asking To Speak To America's REAL Government?
"We can see that the empire moves the same way on important matters regardless of who we elect by simple naked-eye observation of the empire's behaviors from year to year."https://t.co/zc5nz3IaBf
Once they sent some missiles to Ukraine Thanks to the folks on the Hill Once they sent some missiles, now we're done Brother, can you spare seven bill'?
Joe
Biden’s continuing in office as POTUS is verging on elder abuse.
His
performances during press conferences lack coherence. How can anyone not see his
advancing senility? Neoliberal attempts to explain away his decrepit
behavior as a "speech impediment" are failing in credence.
Knowing
this man has control over nuclear weapons makes thinking people
uncomfortable, especially since
NATO seems determined to provoke Vladimir Putin by expanding up to
Russia’s border. Putin has warned what will happen if NATO does so,
yet we see Sweden and Finland proposing to join the outdated Cold War organization. Putin has also
warned that shipments of military gear to Ukraine by Western powers
will be considered legitimate targets of war, yet those shipments
continue at an incredible rate.
This US
proxy war in Ukraine is merely the latest example of how this senile presidentis
still useful to the oligarchy. The US government is funneling
literally billions of dollars into Ukraine—one of the most corrupt countries on Earth according to the Panama Papers—to prop up its failing war effort against Russia.
Most of those billions pass through the coffers of the
military-industrial complex to the complete satisfaction of their
boards of directors and shareholders.
And why? Supposedly so the West can utterly destroy the Russian economy and grab their resources and then move on to conquer the King of Global Capitalism, a.k.a. China. Nothing new there.
It’s
not only Biden’s decline in cognitive function that’s concerning
people. He's sending
$33 billion to Ukraine so the folks there can “have something in their pockets.” Fortunately for the Ukrainians, they already enjoy universal healthcare while many US
citizens have to make do with GoFundMe.
You have to give it to the Democrat Party--there’s
no pretense made that Biden is working for the good of ordinary Americans. $33 billion
could end many injustices that Americans suffer with a stroke of the president's pen. He could easily end student loan debt, institute Medicare For All, send out stimulus checks or start UBI. It's estimated that it would take a mere $20 billion to end homelessness, for instance. Yet Biden gladly sends all that money into a proxy war. Ukraine gets plenty of money for weaponry while American
infrastructure disintegrates all around us.
It makes one wonder who really is at war and with whom. Could it be that struggling Americans are being bombarded by the mindless, selfish destructiveness of capitalism? Is our tax money simply disappearing into a war zone in the form of weapon drops so these arms can be bought and sold later at a discount by other interested parties?
Just think of all the profits to be made from selling drones and missiles after "cleaning up" all that money... Can't you just picture all those Congress members buying new mansions and yachts with those ill-gotten gains? Hey, they worked hard for it!
Meanwhile across the globe, there
is no unity of sanctions against Russia. Hungary is refusing to enact
any
sanctions, partly because Hungarian President Orbán
is getting payback against the EU for penalizing his country over its
anti-LGBTQIA laws, and partly because Orbán isn’t stupid enough to
deprive his people of cheap Russian fuel. India also refuses to go
along with the drive to sanction Russia, its leadership resisting
blandishments and threats from Western powers to do so.
Pakistan
wasn’t so fortunate. A US-instigated coup against Imran Khan
ousted that pro-neutral leader in favor of one more pliable to
Western interests. The message is clear: Nothing personal, but if you're a leader of a country who doesn't go along with NATO's sanctions against Russia, you're going to be out of a job soon.
I
can only conclude that Biden is still a useful fool for the one-percent. Any
comprehension he might still possess on the nature of politics and
capitalism as a whole are more the product of ingrained habit than
specific thought. But as long as the American oligarchy thinks he can talk the talk—after
a drooling fashion—the more likely he'll keep cutting those big checks for that plucky Ukrainian comedian/puppet-president.
BIO: Coast Watcher is tired of watching the working classes get shafted by the greed and evil manipulations of the billionaires invested heavily in the military industrial complex. Isn't it about time we kick all their politician-puppets to the curb and see how they like begging for small change?
More great insight into the why of spending so much on warfare:
The masters of war require an enemy. When an enemy cannot be found, as George Orwell understood in Nineteen Eighty-Four,
an enemy is manufactured. That enemy can become an ally overnight – we
allied ourselves with Iran in the Middle East to fight the Taliban and
later the Caliphate – before instantly reinstated Iran as the
incarnation of evil. The enemy is not about logic or geopolitical
necessity. It is about stoking the fear and hatred that fuels perpetual
war.
In 1989, I covered the revolutions that toppled the
communist dictatorships in Central and Eastern Europe. President
Mikhail Gorbachev, like his successor Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin
in the early stages of his rule, hoped to integrate Russia into the
western alliance. But the war industry places profits before national
defense. It needed an antagonistic Russia to push the expansion of NATO
beyond the borders of a unified Germany in violation of a promise made
to Moscow. There were billions of dollars to be made from a Russian
enemy, as there are billions more to be made from the proxy war in
Ukraine. There would be no “peace dividend” at the end of the Cold War.
The war industry was determined to continue to bleed the US dry and
amass its obscene profits. They provoked and antagonized Russia until
Russia filled its preordained role. --Chris Hedges, The Age of Self-Delusion
Biden’s request of $33 billion in aid for Ukraine is more than twice the size of a previously approved package, underscoring how the U.S is preparing for a sustained conflict in Ukraine. ABSURD COST. FUELS THE WAR & DRAWS IT OUT UNTIL FINAL NUCLEAR CONFRONTATION.
There's always a magic money tree to pay for arms. None for feeding children or housing people, but always money available to pay international arms dealers. #peace#feckcapitalism
It's crazy, that we could send another $33 billion to Ukraine but that we refuse to provide safe housing for the homeless when it would only cost $20 Billion.
Hilarious that it's been controversial to say there's a US proxy war in a country where the US is sending weapons to be used by CIA-trained fighters backed by US intelligence against a longtime US rival in a conflict the US knowingly provoked. https://t.co/Go2AE8moHE
