The Amazing Creativity of Bernie Supporters

One thing we learned from the recent Bernie Sanders get-togethers is that supporters of Bernie Sanders are an extremely creative and enthusiastic people. (Our new site banner above was created by Bernie supporter Jane Jefferies, for instance.) It’s refreshing in this day and age of “snarky” commentary and negativity in the media to come across folks full of such great joy, eager to share the good news of Bernie’s White House bid with others. They’re generally an optimistic bunch. They feel that our country will become a better place for all under Bernie’s leadership—and it will happen very, very soon!

An online “contest” to create haikus about Bernie Sanders yielded some excellent examples of their creativity. Here’s a sampling for your enjoyment:

What Does a Bernie Supporter Look Like?

With great anticipation my husband and I awaited the Bernie meet-up for July 29, 2015, at Coffee Amici in downtown Findlay, Ohio. After all, we were finally going to meet other fans of the independent-minded senator from Vermont in the flesh. Would they be the "socialist devils with pitchforks" that many in the media kept describing? Would we be awash in denim and tie-dye and love beads and tree-huggers? Would we be surrounded by marching "Communists" with red stars tattooed on their chests? 

The short answer: No.

Bernie Sanders' supporters are ordinary folks that you'd meet on the street anywhere... You go to church with them, work with them, shop with them--your kids and grandkids may even attend school with them. Hey--you may even be one of them yourself and you don't even realize it yet.

Bernie brings out the best in people we discovered. They're enthusiastic and energetic. They come in all ages, sizes and colors, too. I know I was quite impressed with the large turn out of "Millennials" who now make up the largest proportion of the population. Face it, baby boomers--our day is over, and it's time we stop being so selfish and make our country a more caring and hospitable place for our kids and grandkids.

So, if you've been on the fence about coming out to the world as a Bernie Sanders for President supporter because you're afraid you won't fit it, don't worry. The people who need solar power most are those least likely to be able to afford it - at the moment. The Low Income Solar Act (LISA) will be good for the environment, good for the economy, good for creating and sustaining new jobs, and will be far cheaper than yet another war for oil. Why kill thousands of people in pursuit of oil? Why dig up 200 million-year-old sunlight when we can have the fresh stuff every day? Why continue to pollute the air with carbon emissions? 

With the Low Income Solar Act, this puts affordable solar power within reach of ordinary people. This will save money, help the world, and save the Earth for future generations.

Welcome to The Bernie Blog -- a place were everyday Americans can speak their piece. No fancy political pundits. No big name celebrities. No billionaires or personal friends of the Koch Brothers. Just ordinary folks who are struggling to survive day-by-day in the good ol' U.S.A. People who want to give voice to their concerns and share their hopes for the better world they envision with Bernie Sanders in the White House.

This blog was founded by two Ohioans who met each other on Facebook and thought that it would be a good thing to express what we thought of Sen. Bernie Sanders as a candidate for the presidency in 2016. We wanted the voting public to know why we supported Bernie Sanders and what his candidacy meant to us and others like us. We're not cranks. We're not part of the "radical fringe" as some in the press have tried to paint us and Bernie. We live in "normal" towns, in a very "normal" area of the state. We feel that there are many others out there who share similar concerns and also support Bernie's run for the White House.

We know that we are not alone.
