When working with immigrants in the United States you’ll often hear the phrase “Know Your Rights” or “KYR” for short. KYR cards are business-sized and usually printed in English on one side and Spanish or another language on the other.
They’re handed out to immigrants and their supporters to remind them of
their rights under the law, and what they should say and do if they are
confronted by ICE or the Border Patrol. It’s amazing how helpful these
little slips of paper can be in a time of crisis.
I
believe it’s time to start handing out another reminder card to the
general public—a “Know Your Enemy” card. Ordinary Americans need
reminding exactly who our enemies are and what we can do to protect
ourselves from them. If you find yourself in a difficult situation and
you’re not sure who you can trust, the following handy reminders could
save you a lot of woe.
To get all Americans on the same page, the following are NOT your enemies:
1.
“Illegal Aliens” (or immigrants) 2. Real Bug-Eyed Space Aliens 3.
Russians 4. Chinese persons 5. Iranians 6. Cubans 7. Venezuelans 8.
Palestinian babies in incubators (Hamas!) 9. Lebanese villagers and
their priests 10. Paramedics, doctors, nurses, other medical personnel,
teachers, college professors, and aid workers living in a foreign
country under attack by the US and/or one of its allies (including
United Nations workers).
The following ARE your enemies:
1.
Capitalists (of all persuasions, particularly Fascists and all listed
in the Epstein files) 2. The Military-Industrial Complex (MIC) and
related corporations 3. Congress, the president, and all politicians and
supporters of the duopoly (that is, all members of “Team Red and Team Blue”) 4. Propagandists who cover for the duopolists 5. The Mainstream Media outlets
who hire propagandists and censor dissenters 6. “Tech Bros” who
shadow-ban dissenters on their social platforms and want to wipe out the
working class and replace them with— 7. AIs and their AI programs that pick out military targets to bomb
such as elementary schools and hospitals in countries with large
non-white populations (and think nuking humans is okay) 8. The IDF and
White Supremacists of all persuasions, particularly Zionists 9.
AIPAC/ADL/J Street and their off-shoot agencies and lobbyists (because
they along with the MIC are doing their best to bribe all of number
three). 10. ICE and all armed thugs and state terrorists that do the
dirty work of our enemies.
Now
that we’re all on the same page, we all know what the enemy looks like,
acts like, sounds like, etc., we can work together and come up with
ways to fight against our mutual foes and free ourselves from their
tyranny, right?

For being the shortest month of the year, February certainly packs a lot of punches.
Most
of them are gut punches, too. I received some great news this week from
a friend who has been given a second chance to prove himself, but that
good news was almost instantly nullified by some heartbreaking news from
another friend that made the tears flow freely. Life is a series of ups
and downs. No doubt about it.
The news cycle—the real news cycle, not the pretend mainstream media one—hasn’t been all that joyful, either. What to write about this week? Hmm…
The
US is still funding a horrific genocide in Palestine and helping Israel
to steal all the land in both Gaza and the West Bank. The US is openly starving Cuba into submission
for God-knows-what reason. Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife are
still prisoners, and the US government is giving their oil to Israel,
of course. The Department of Homeland Security and ICE are purchasing
hundreds of empty warehouses to imprison immigrants and perhaps citizens
as well. And the latest Epstein files dump
tells us that our “ruling class” is into cannibalism besides child
rape, torture, and murder. So many wonderful topics to choose from!
I decided finally to ignore the gut punches and think about better things happening in February, such as Black History Month.
It’s a good time of the year to sit back and reflect on how the United
States became the complete and utter shithole it is today by honoring
those who fought hard to rise above its racist-fascist shittiness.
The
inspiration came from the meme at the top. It popped up on my UpScrolled
feed. (Join today—UpScrolled doesn’t shadow-ban.) Frederick Douglass
definitely knew what he was talking about. Once you know something—you really know
all there is to know about it—you can’t let go of that knowledge. It
changes you. It becomes a part of you, for better or worse...

It’s more than a song title—it’s how we’ll win this thing.
The most common reply I get whenever I post a blog or make comment on another’s blog about this topic goes like this:
“Well, since you’re so full of ideas—how the hell do we pull this off? How do we get rid of the raping-pedophile-fascist-imperialist-capitalists-in-power?
Because if we can’t get rid of them, then what’s the use of pointing
out how evil and corrupt they are? Learn to live with it, [insert
insulting epithet here].”
It
is tiring repeating myself constantly, but if that’s what it takes I’ll
do it. Our planet and our children’s futures depend upon this current
generation of human beings doing the right thing and getting it done.
Perhaps
words alone are not enough to make an impression on some minds… Here
are some photos from a recent “ICE Out!” march, an organizers’ fair, and
a “No War on Iran” protest along with a brief explanation of what I’m
talking about.

This new year is off to one hell of a start, ain’t it?
American taxpayers are still funding and arming a genocide in Gaza and ignoring land grabs and murders in the West Bank by Israeli settlers. The US military is pirating oil tankers and has the audacity to bomb Venezuela and kidnap their president and his wife because of made-up drug trafficking charges. Greenland, Cuba, Iran—what’s next on their agenda?
And lest we forget, the US attacked Nigeria because supposedly bombing it would save the lives of Christians living there… There’s so much non-stop violence and thievery going on at the hands of the US and their proxy forces throughout the world that it’s hard keeping up with the disgusting propaganda spewing forth from the mouth of the self-called “peace president.”
“What
gives in the Land of the Free?” you ask. I’ll tell you, but you won’t
like the answer: The United States of America is an openly fascist
empire, and it’s doing what fascist empires normally do: keeping their
billionaire rulers deliriously happy...

After
several late nights watching the livestreams from the various boats of
the Global Sumud Flotilla, cringing as the activists were pummeled with
skunk water before being kidnapped by the Israeli Navy and taken to prison to be beaten and called “terrorists,” I’m in the mood for
screaming:
SHUT IT DOWN!
The
very last of the first flotilla boats was boarded by the Israelis by
very early Friday morning Eastern time. But the next wave of boats to
carry humanitarian aid to Gaza, a flotilla called “Thousand Madleens to
Gaza”, had already launched, and are on their way. (Learn more about
them at https://www.thousandmadleens.org/) There’s no stopping a good idea and good people who want to help others live a good life.
And
keeping the Israeli Navy busy hunting for the small boats of the
flotilla in the Mediterranean has actually helped the starving in a
measurable way. Gazan fishermen were able to slip their boats out into
the sea and fish without being shot at by the IOF! Even if the Israelis
threw the humanitarian aid into the bottom of the sea, the flotilla
really did break the blockade after all.
Greta
and the others did what they intended to and weren’t persuaded to stay
home and sit on their backsides. They worked hard and suffered much to—
SHUT IT DOWN!
Palestinian
supporters in Europe have been marching in record numbers protesting
their countries’ lack of help for the victims of Israel’s ethnic
cleansing. In Amsterdam alone a quarter million were in the streets. In
Italy over a million turned out. Workers and students demonstrated
after the largest unions called for a one-day general strike. Hundreds
of trains were cancelled or delayed, some flights were cancelled, and
many schools were closed.
These
same sorts of actions should be happening everywhere. In North America,
we’re slow on the uptake. No major shut downs yet. No general strike. A
meme says, “The problem with American protests is that we schedule
protests one by one instead of showing up every night until the change
happens.”
Word! We should show up every night until we—
SHUT IT DOWN!

Make History—Don’t Repeat It!

I
have to stifle my giggles whenever an acquaintance goes on about how
“Trump is the worse president ever! He’s supporting a genocide in Gaza!
He’s taking away our freedom of speech! He’s trying to steal Greenland!
No other president has ever done such horrible things!”
(Yes,
I know that Biden also supported Israel’s genocide in Gaza among other
horrendous things, but to these poor dears, Joe Biden is a kindly old
man who likes licking ice cream cones and playing with little girls’
hair. He’s some sort of saint apparently in Dem circles. No kidding.)
The
reason I want to giggle—actually I want to laugh out loud in their
faces—is because it’s just too obvious how well our government’s
propaganda works. These people are clueless! Any US history classes they
may have taken in high school or college were woefully inadequate.
Their instructors obviously never went into depth on certain topics, and
the textbooks used in those classes didn’t waste much print on those
topics, either.
It’s
as if American powers-that-be don’t want to air our dirty laundry to
the working masses. If American workers really learned about their
country’s actual history, they might get ideas. Bad ideas. Ideas and
examples of how Americans stood up against oppression, intolerance,
bigotry, and outright theft of land, labor, and resources in the past.
InA People’s History of the United States,
historian Howard Zinn doesn’t beat around the bush. He tells things
straightforwardly, without the narrative spin that always seems to make
the wealthy, white, occasionally slave-owning male elites the heroes in
your average US history book. From now on, whenever somebody says a
silly thing like Trump is the “only president to support a genocide,” I
will point them to Zinn’s classic tome.
Here’s what Zinn has to say in the seventh chapter of A People’s History
about one particular incident of genocide that was not only supported
by the United States government, it was actually committed by the US
government against several groups of indigenous people...

My
daughters absolutely adored these picture books when they were little.
The mouse or the moose keeps asking for more and more things until the
human characters’ whole world becomes one big chaotic mess. They’re
funny, cautionary tales, but mostly they’re just plain good ol’
toddler/early reader entertainment.
Somehow
these children’s stories instantly sprang to mind upon watching
excerpts of Donald Trump being sworn in as president this past week.
While the children’s stories are adorable and silly, there’s nothing
particularly adorable about Trump and company and their chaos. Their
silly parts are equally annoying, too.
I
find the best way to handle a Trump presidency is to ignore the man. I
did it from January 2017 to January 2021. I just didn’t watch or listen
to Trump on TV or online, and I still don’t. I will read about his
actions or watch others discuss whatever insane thing he said that day,
but I won’t listen to his voice or look at his face if I can avoid it.
In that way, I keep my already high blood pressure from going any
higher.
This
method works well for me. I stay informed, but at a distance that is
comfortable for my sanity. If you haven’t tried this ignoring
technique of dealing with Trump, I highly recommend it. If you find that
you really do miss listening to the dunderhead after a few days, then
you can always switch him back on and watch and listen to him live to
your heart’s content.
I
don’t tend to write much about Trump, either. Sure, he’s bound to pop
up now and then like a silly mouse or moose asking for baked goods in
whatever I write for the next few years, but he is seldom the “main
character” of any story I’ll tell.
Why is that you ask? It’s because I sincerely believe Trump isn’t the main character or protagonist of anything...

Priorities, People! Priorities!

Everyone probably has had a teacher, professor, coach, boss, or parent who has shouted, “Priorities, people! Priorities!” whenever you seemed to lose focus or got distracted by something not as important as you thought it was.
I can still hear my 9th grade Algebra teacher repeatedly telling us to do our assignments first or we wouldn’t be able to pass the chapter test.
“Did you do the even numbered exercises last night? he’d challenge us. “You want to pass the test and pass this class, don’t you? Priorities, people! Priorities!”
Of course, not everyone did their homework. Not everyone passed the test or passed the class. They got distracted by something more fun than working math problems. In my era, that meant watching too much TV or listening to your latest rock LPs for hours on end instead of doing your homework. And the results of their distraction showed—in their grades then, and possibly in their lives later on because of the type of jobs they were able to get without passing Algebra. Not the good paying kind.
Becoming distracted from what is really important can lead to serious consequences. “What happened?” these distracted folks whine in confusion. They’ll blame everyone but themselves for making poor decisions by following a false priority down a dead end path.
I want to help you focus on what should be your top priorities, not because I enjoy scolding people, but because I hate seeing people suffer later, angry, because no one warned them from wandering far from what really matters.

In these weird times, sometimes it's good to take a break and look back into our past and see what all we can learn from those who came before us. Sometimes, it's just good to take a look back and see where we went wrong and do our best not to take the same or similar path again.
This week, during the big wind up to the coronation of King Charles III, I had a conversation with our resident historian and British person, Coast Watcher, about who's really the power behind the throne. We both agreed that Charles has no real power outside of his billions in the bank and his ability to boss around (and fire) his household staff. But is the power in the UK really in the hands of the so-called Prime Minister, either?
The same could be argued about who is the power behind the American presidency in the twenty-first century. Who really manipulates and control the president's agenda? Nowadays no matter who is in office, no matter what part of the "uni-party" the president claims to be a member of, it seems that the same ol' things occur.
Wars are started on the flimsiest of excuses in order to take resources (oil, natural gas, lithium, etc.) from other countries. This is particularly true of nations that try to disengage from doing international trade using the petrodollar, such as Libya and Iran. These countries eventually wind up being either bombed and/or economically sanctioned. Millions die. US banks and big corporations are bailed out of debt, but the working classes aren't.
The Princeton Study clearly shows how corporations own everyone and everything in the US, but who exactly pulls the strings on a daily basis? Who are those "men behind the curtains" worldwide? Let's take a peek...
Behind the Curtain by Coast Watcher
Back in the 1980s there was a hugely popular BBC TV comedy series called Yes, Minister. It portrayed the bumbling antics of Jim Hacker (played by Paul Eddington), Minister for Administrative Affairs, as he negotiated the labyrinthine pathways of British government. Working behind the scenes was the Machiavellian Sir Humphrey Appleby (played by Nigel Hawthorne), the Permanent Secretary attached to the ministry.
Minister Hacker was frequently left in the dark by his supposed civil service underling, Sir Humphrey, who always had an eye for maintaining the hegemony of the British Civil Service while enhancing his own position and prestige wherever possible. As the character of Sir Humphrey says, "Ministers may come and go, but the Civil Service goes on forever."
And so it is with most Western governments. Like that of the UK there’s always a solid core of apparatchiks determined to advance their own cause and feather their nests, often at the expense of government transparency and efficiency. Like Sir Humphrey these people may be permanent fixtures in the civil service, but there are always some who come and go over the course of years, taking advantage of the revolving door between government and industry.
The elected politicians are not really of any consequence to these non-elected career civil servants. Many politicos don’t last the course, either losing voter support or doing just enough for long enough to earn all those lovely benefits that come with holding public office. Sir Humphrey definitely knew of what he spoke of.
Such an environment is fertile ground for deep conspiracies which are seldom in the best interest of the public. Of course, the elected ones can always proclaim they had no idea what was happening behind the curtain after these heinous deeds are exposed to the world by a whistleblower like Julian Assange, whether or not their professed ignorance is real.
For instance, it was revealed recently that the CIA had recruited and operated two of the 9/11 conspirators. Whatever the reasoning behind this spectacular self-centered goal, there’s no denying it was certainly not in the interests of the American public—nor that of the citizens of Iraq, whose country the Western coalition invaded by using 9/11 as a pretext under the false flag that it held WMDs (Weapons of Mass Destruction).
It’s no secret, either, that the intelligence services have their hooks deep into the body public. The CIA began as the OSS—Office of Strategic Services. Drawing many valuable lessons from the British Special Operations Executive, the OSS morphed into a powerhouse organization with virtually unlimited budget and almost zero accountability to the public.
The first head of the Central Intelligence Agency was John F. Dulles. A personal friend of President Eisenhower, Dulles’ influence enabled the CIA to set almost all elements of US policy toward the Soviet Union and Communist China. Such influence is still apparent today, with the operations against Russia in the current conflict in Ukraine and the wind up to start a war with China over Taiwan independence.
There’s no denying the woeful impact the manufactured war in Ukraine has had on the peoples of the European Union. They are paying through the nose for natural gas to heat their homes after US Navy divers sabotaged the NordStream II pipeline. In many ways, it’s turning into a defeat for America, as the supposed stringent sanctions against Russia are backfiring in spectacular fashion following the creation of the BRICS initiative set to sideline the petrodollar. And one can't deny that China's diplomatic initiatives to bring about a peaceful resolution to several disputes--including the one between Ukraine/NATO and Russia--makes the United States look even more hawkish than usual.
Of course, as with any Western government, capitalism can’t be ignored. Capitalists must be served! The UK saw the Industrial Intelligence Bureau created in the early 1920s by British businesses to "acquire intelligence on industrial unrest arising from the activities of Communists, Anarchists, various secret societies in the UK and overseas, the Irish Republican Army and other 'subversive' organizations.'" Its founder, Sir George Makgill, was close friends with Desmond Morton, Head of the Special Intelligence Service.
Another revolving door between government and private industry existed between the Industrial Intelligence Bureau and MI5. Agents from one would work for a time in the other organization. No conflict of interest there! The British Fascist movement had its own followers and fellow-travelers inside the intelligence agencies of state and industry, a state of affairs that lasted well into World War II.
With America and, to some extent, the UK sliding ever closer toward fascism, I’ll end this article with some pertinent words from that granddaddy of all fascists:
