Why The Revolution Hasn't Started Yet

Why The Revolution Hasn't Started Yet

by C.A. Matthews

That’s what authentic living is, in my view: meeting life just as it is, without egocentric filters, distortions or manipulations, come what may. This is the only way to really live our time on this earth, to really experience each moment instead of missing it. It’s also the only way for ordinary people to respond to tyranny and abuse with the emotional energy it requires. Caitlin Johnstone, We Must Never Let Ourselves Become Desensitized To This

I spy this question almost weekly—if not daily—on the social media platforms I frequent. I ask it to myself almost every night before I go to bed… Why hasn’t the Revolution started yet?

Many pundits and experts cite current statistics about the reality of Bidenomics. All I know is that I pay $3.69 for a block of cream cheese that I paid about 99 cents only three years ago. The facts don’t lie: Capitalism kills, particularly those of the working class.

Why hasn’t the Revolution started yet? The question is pertinent. Its answer is desperately needed.

Why hasn’t the Revolution started yet? What’s holding it up? What is holding us back from taking decisive action? Why hasn’t the magical Revolution Fairy descended from on high and seized the means of production away from the capitalists and given it to the workers yet?

That last question reveals the answer to the first question. The workers don’t really want to work hard to bring about a socialist utopia. They want someone or something else to do the heavy lifting, sort of like their capitalist bosses want the workers to do all the heavy lifting for the bosses. And so the Revolution is going nowhere fast, and “Nowhere” is not a destination to head toward if one is serious about changing the world for the better.

While we travel slowly to Nowhere, the members of the working class aren’t exactly idle. They’re spewing out their hate and frustrations on each other more often than not. The workers might say they believe in socialism, equality, and sharing the benefits of an egalitarian society with their fellow human beings, but the evidence isn’t quite there. If those who long for Revolution truly longed to bring about the beautiful socialist transformation of our economies and governmental systems for all humankind, they would demonstrate their altruism and goodwill in their everyday actions and manners, right?

But the workers, those supposed lovers of Revolution, don’t demonstrate brotherly love (sisterly love or neighborly love) for their fellow workers. Often they show outright contempt. It’s ugly and unseemly.

Case in point, the chat room of a popular socialist podcaster on YouTube recently. The podcaster is interviewing a new worker in the campaign for high office of a revolutionary dreamer. Questions are asked of the new worker. He doesn’t hesitate to answer and elaborate on his new position and his personal history and experience. The discussion on camera is fine and illuminates aspects of the new worker’s position in the campaign.

But this is not the chat room occupants’ focus. Many are ignoring the conversation on screen and are repeatedly calling the new worker a “psychopath” and a “liar.” They don’t show any altruism or goodwill in their actions. Their rhetoric becomes even more spiteful and hate-filled as the interview continues, particularly so when the new worker expresses a mutual longing for socialist Revolution as well.

By the end of the interview, anyone reading the chat room dialogue would think it wasn’t a socialist podcast but a capitalist brow-beaters’ convention. The chatters claim to be leftists or socialists who want Revolution, but their actions say otherwise. They revel in cruelty. They verbally attack those in the chat room who won’t join in the snarkfest against the new worker alongside them.

If you claim you want to bring about a better world for the entirety of humanity based upon a socialist society, then you must demonstrate that you want this better world to be for all human beings. You must forgive your enemies and give your fellow workers the same chance. You must treat everyone as equals, not treat some better and some worse. Otherwise, you’re not a true revolutionary. You are still a capitalist, and you belong in one of the duopolist parties.

Why keep asking, “Why hasn’t the Revolution started yet?” when you know it’s not going to start while they’re still more capitalists than socialists in the world.

The Revolution can’t start while there are some who continue to think themselves better than their fellow workers, that they merit better treatment because they are somehow more moral and more deserving of forgiveness. The brutal chat commentators calling the new worker a “liar” over and over again are saying that they are superior to him because only they as his superiors can know the truth. The new worker is painted as “less than” because the chatters see him as less worthy of their trust and respect.

So it follows that the cruel chatters can label the new worker a “psychopath” without any self-awareness that their own behavior is psychopathic in its need to inflict pain upon another human as much as possible through degrading comments. Name-calling is a puerile way to assert dominance in a conversation. The so-called “socialists” in the chat room (and elsewhere on the internet) who resort to name-calling, cursing, and using vulgarities to describe others aren’t ready for the Revolution. They simply don’t see other human beings as equals—or perhaps even as human beings at all.

Even worse, these name-callers’ actions mirror those of their capitalist bosses. They keep ordering others around and insisting upon their own superiority. How can a socialist Revolution start when it’s supposed supporters’ actions mimic those of the capitalists’ selfish ways?

There you have it—the real reason behind why the Revolution hasn’t started yet. We the workers are not ready for change. We don’t want the world to become a more just and caring place for everyone. We want some to suffer horribly for their past mistakes, over and over again. We withhold forgiveness from other workers for making mistakes even though we ourselves make mistakes daily.

We the workers don’t want equality. We want to act just as bad as our capitalist bosses who berate us and lord over us. With such horrible examples like this coming from so-called socialists, how will we ever convince others to learn the benefits of socialism and join in the cause?

The Golden Rule is a good place to start if you truly want to create a socialist Revolution. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Walk a mile in another person’s moccasins.

Stop kidding yourself into thinking that acting superior and snarky and showing zero empathy for others is somehow an expression of “socialism.” It isn’t. Capitalists act superior and snarky and show zero empathy for the workers all the time. This is why the world is as screwed up as it is today.

If you want our society to change for the better so you don’t have to keep asking, “Why hasn’t the Revolution started yet?” then you need to grow up emotionally and treat your fellow workers as equals, worthy of your trust, respect, and forgiveness. Anything less won’t cut it.

Why hasn’t the Revolution started yet? The simple answer could be YOU.

Boulder. Together.

Boulder. Together.

by C.A. Matthews

It’s been difficult, if not next to impossible, to become excited by the American political scene in recent years. The whole electoral process itself seems like a sham, a game meant to distract the public away from things that really matter, like providing health care and housing for all. The race results are decided months, if not years, in advance. The billionaires/oligarchs know exactly who they want running the show so they can continue to benefit monetarily from their endless wars for resources. They know which Wall Street-owned candidate will turn a blind eye and give them a free hand to abuse the workers so production costs never cut too far into their profit margins.

Knowing the futility of making any mark on American elections makes me mad enough to throw a flaming Molotov cocktail into the whole stinking cesspool of politicians, wiping them off the face of the earth for good. Or maybe I could just throw a rock into their mansions’ front windows with a note attached declaring, “I'm mad as hell, and I'm not taking it anymore!”

A rock… Hey, that’s an idea!

Yard Rock recently announced his run for the White House via his campaign manager, Lee Camp. Yard Rock is very old in geologic age but very young when it comes to political campaigning. Still, he has an impressive platform worth supporting:

  • Has never supported a war (and never will)
  • Has never supported an increase in Pentagon spending (and never will)

  • Did not support the Global War on Terror that has killed roughly 6 million people

  • Did not support the invasion of Iraq

  • Did not support the invasion of Afghanistan

  • Did not support the invasion of Libya

  • Has committed no war crimes (and never will)

  • Has committed no rape or sexual assault, nor even been accused (and never will)

  • Has never supported the US prison state – largest prison population in the world (and never will)

  • Has not been involved in increasing the US prison state (and never will)

  • Has never supported corporate tax cuts (and never will)

  • Has never supported Big Pharma (and never will)

  • Has never supported Big Ag (and never will)

  • Has never supported Big Oil (and never will)

  • Has never supported Big Banks (and never will)

  • Has never supported corporate media (and never will)

  • Has never endorsed the persecution of Julian Assange (and never will)

  • Has never endorsed the propaganda known as Russiagate (and never will)

  • Has never endorsed the anti-China propaganda (and never will)

  • Has never supported cuts to food stamps, social security, medicare, medicaid, housing programs, public schools, infrastructure, or transportation (and never will)

  • Has never raised questions about the veracity of the climate crisis (and never will)

  • Has never supported the out-of-control police state (and never will)

  • Has never endorsed the pathetic exploitative US healthcare system (and never will)

  • Has never doubted or fought against Indigenous rights (and never will)

  • Has never taken a dime from corporate America (and never will)

  • No Super PAC funding

  • Never accepted donations from Big Pharma, weapons manufacturing, etc. (This rock is not a puppet!)

  • Has never voted to send arms to Israel

  • Did not vote for latest spending bill

  • Did not support Trump’s tax cuts for the rich

  • Did not support the 2008 bank bailout

  • Did not support the PATRIOT Act

  • Did not support NAFTA

  • Currently holds no assets in stock market

  • No appearance on Epstein’s flight logs

  • Never endorsed a Democrat or Republican candidate

  • Has never cooperated or supported the FBI or CIA

  • Is not white

  • Has never appeared on SNL

  • Supports the efforts of wild orcas to tip over yachts

I’m really excited by the candidacy of Yard Rock. I think he’s a solid candidate. It’s hard not to love him. Only the most igneous and sedimentary of American voters would ignore this stone while he’s on a roll. He’s the genuine rolling stone, all right. (And Keith Richards is a mere child by comparison.)

I know what you’re going to say next—you’re going to say, “But how is Yard Rock at the podium and on camera? Can he engage and energize the voters, bringing them to a Rocky Mountain high? Will he be able to convince them to vote for his bolder than most other candidates’ platforms?”

Yard Rock, by his nature, is a rather quiet and deep individual. It’ll be rough at first getting the public to know him. He’ll need a little help in this area to smooth things over with those who don't believe a mineral has got what it takes. That’s why I’m volunteering my skills as his speech writer. I want to do him proud and help him wow audiences with a volcanic blast of oratory that will, in turn, make him win the presidency by a landslide.

The avalanche of support Yard Rock’s candidacy will bring will be further amplified when he picks his running mate. There’s no need to mine the field of independent candidates too deeply. It isn’t rock-et science: Yard Rock should cement his run by choosing Dr. Cornel West as his vice president.

Dr. West has numerous good qualities that will support Yard Rock’s strengths. He’s tall, speaks well, and has powerful arms to carry Yard Rock from podium to podium as they campaign. They already agree on so much, particularly on ending wars. They both realize they’ll face a mountain of opposition from candidates from the corporate-owned-and-operated parties. (That is, the duopoly or uni-party, or as they like call themselves “The Ds and the Rs”. They seem to have suffered a fissure at some point and now think they’re actually differentiated strata, but any good rock hound knows better. They’re a composite ore.

What have these Wall Street manipulated mannequins of mass destruction really got on the integrity of Yard Rock and the highly regarded Dr. West? Nothing. Nada. They gleefully bury bodies with the backhoe of the military-industrial complex profit-making machine, but they don’t offer the electorate the hope and compassion that Yard Rock and Dr. West grant it. There’s going to be a tremendous earthquake in Washington DC the day the Rock/West team cracks open and exposes the faults lining status quo politics as usual there.

I don’t want Yard Rock and Dr. West to peak too soon, so I’ll end it here for now. I hope I’ve dropped a pebble into your well of consideration, and I recommend you check out a candidate’s web site before making your decision. I’m heartened by the fact that Yard Rock has the backing of Team Orca, a wonderful group of cetaceans who know when their ship has sailed in. (Or is that a yacht?)

We truly can be “boulder together.”

P.S. What sort of campaign theme tune should we have for Yard Rock/Cornel West 2024? I'm leaning toward classic rock, but Dr. West is well known as a jazz lover. Perhaps a fusion of the two genres?

Impossible Things (Uniting The Left)

Impossible Things

(Uniting The Left)

by. C.A. Matthews

“Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

It might not be quite six, but there is one big impossible thing I believe we can accomplish before breakfast. Call me a cock-eyed optimist, but I’d like to see the Left unite just once and elect a non-duopolist, non-corporate-owned, non-warhawk candidate for president.

Yes, I’m talking about Dr. Cornel West. And, yes, I know the odds are against anyone uniting the American Left anytime this century. A girl can dream though, can’t she?

Perhaps...the time has come to bring the entirety of the Left together in order to mount a strong offense against the duopoly or the “uni-party with two names.” As a Green, Dr. West cannot accept any campaign contributions from lobbyists or corporations like the Dems and Republicans regularly do. That fact already makes him less suspect to persons who view themselves as being on the far left side of the Overton Window.

So, there’s no chance of Big Oil promising President West a load of cash to sign over more federal lands (national parks/reserves) to them to drill for oil, such as Biden has done recently with the Willow Project. Not taking cash from billionaires/oligarchs and relying solely on the support of regular people like you and me makes Dr. West seem like an honest candidate who will listen to the working classes over the wealthy, doesn’t it?

But where does Cornel West stand on issues such as the proxy war in Ukraine? To Leftists—and I mean real Leftists, not faux ones such as A.O.C. and the Squad—this is an exceedingly important issue. The Military-Industrial Complex or simply “the War Machine” is all about making huge profits at the expense of human lives and the care of our environment. It’s safe to say that Dr. West running as a Green is decidedly pro-humanity and pro-environment.

Dr. West’s Christian belief in seeing the image of God (imago dei) in the face of every human being and taking seriously the directive in the book of Genesis of being a “good steward of the earth” prevents him from starting a senseless war for profit. The idea of starting a war to grab resources, such as natural gas, while destroying hundreds of cities and killing thousands of peoplewhile polluting an entire country’s croplands with depleted uranium shells from US given ordinance in the processwould be anathema to Cornel West. Depleted uranium is radioactive, and it’s been linked to cancer, birth defects, and environmental damage in areas it’s been used, including Iraq, where US forces frequently fired the toxic munitions. Its impact is still being felt there today.

How refreshing it is to contemplate having a US president who possesses no desire to shed blood either at home or across the globe! Since Dr. West is running as a Green, he must agree with its pro-peace/anti-violence and pro-environment platform. Rest assured, a West administration will not start another conflict such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Grenada, Vietnam… just to make the CEOs of Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Lockheed Martin happy.

The unhappy faux leftists (a.k.a. the Democratic Party) will try to throw dirt on Dr. West because of his well-articulated, humanity-loving beliefs. I have no doubts that some Dems will call him “antisemitic” because he has openly declared his support of the Palestinian people and their struggles to live in peace.

Once again, as a professing Christian, Cornel West doesn’t want to see any of God’s children suffering and dying. He has said so on many occasions. He has clearly stated that he supports and cares for all people—poor, rich, black, white, brown, indigenous, gay, trans, straight, leftists or right-wingers. Why would he approve of the modern state of Israel bombing and taking land away from Palestinians? Why wouldn’t he want to bring about a peaceful end to the hostilities there and elsewhere?

Podcaster Briahna Joy Gray asked Dr. West about his support of the Palestinian people as compared to DNC candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s pro-Israel stance. West answered her quite plainly:

“You want a presidential candidate… who has a backbone… If [RFK Jr.] thinks somehow that each [Palestinian] baby who was killed somehow was never in any way, intentional, deliberate, [Israel] didn't know what they were doing—he needs to really get off the crack pipe.”

Faux leftists like RFK Jr. and Marianne Williamson stand to receive a lot of money from a political action committee funded by the Israeli government, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee or AIPAC. AIPAC is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the legislative and executive branches of the United States and has over 100,000 members, 17 regional offices, and “a vast pool of donors” according to their website. Their annual revenue in 2014 was over $77 million dollars.

Faux leftists like RFK Jr. and Marianne aren’t necessarily bloodthirsty or racist or genocidal toward the Palestinian people. It’s just that they love all the money they get from lobbyists like AIPAC just by being Democratic Party duopolists. Why would they give up so much money and their party’s possible nomination just to save the lives of innocent Palestinian children? Remember: “Rich, White Lives Matter” too!

I could go on about how I believe Cornel West is the candidate to unite the Left because of his integrity and compassion, but I like to keep these posts under 10,000 words. Besides, there’s plenty of time to articulate many more points before November 2024. For now, I just want to plant a seed in the mind of the American Left and let it germinate and grow, perhaps to blossom into a strong movement of activists determined to wipe out the corruption and warmongering that has dwelt for far too long within the halls of government.

Too many are suffering from hunger, homelessness, lack of health care, overwhelming student debt… We owe it to them to fight for a candidate who will speak up for the oppressed both at home and abroad. Let’s sit down and talk things over about how a Cornel West presidential campaign could bring the Left together and attract others to the cause of building a better world. We owe it to future generations to cooperate now in order to get rid of the lesser evil mindset of the duopoly and, in turn, mandate beneficial change for the greater good.

“Our problems stem from our acceptance of this filthy, rotten system.” Dorothy Day, peace activist
